I'm curious if anyone who applied this last year received scholarship and if so, how much (if you don't mind telling), what school, and when were you awarded the scholarship?

you don't get scholarships for med school unless you are weird and have no friends

I've heard that from some people, but I've also seen people talking about their full rides and such, even with MCAT scores around 30 and decent GPAs. I guess they've just applied to schools way below their numbers. What I'd like to know is, on the off-chance, people do get scholarships, when does it happen? Is it right after acceptance, do they have to wait until award letters in late spring, early summer, or only during 2nd or 3rd years?

I got a small scholarship and no I'm not weird and I have plenty of friends. I got my scholarship because the school was willing to help me out to make my decision to attend a little easier. I received the scholarship notice after speaking to the school and asking what they could do for me and I basically got scholarship to make tuition the same as it would be for my state school. It's worth asking about, you never know if there might be some money out there for you.

That is what I was thinking. Some schools might do "something" if they really are interested in having you at their school. Otherwise, scholarships don't happen too much in med school.

Some schools will offer need based and or merit based scholarships, but it really depends on the particular medical school since each school is different. Try talking to the financial aid office of the school you are attending or planning to attend for more information. 😉

Too bad for the native people from jersey that the tuition you would have paid for is the cheapest schooling we can get. 🙄

😛 You need to get out more.

I have a $10,000/year scholarship (actually called a tuition waiver) from my school (given based on GPA & MCAT). I've also gotten scholarships/grants from the ACOFP, the local medical society, and my church/denomination. If you look around, there are things out there.

Has anyone received scholarship yet during this application period? or just acceptances?
