Scholarships -- how do you get them?

Do schools just offer it, or do you have to apply? What schools are known for being "generous"? Does anybody know if UMDNJ, Temple, or NYU offer them for first year students? Wouldnt that just make life easier!!!

I think many schools will offer you a scholarship (if applicable) in your acceptance letter. I know for a fact that UMDNJ does.
