Is anyone pursuing the Public Health Opportunity yet?

They pay fo your schooling plus stipend and then a salary when you work for them (year for year after graduating). It sounds like a great deal.

Why arent more people talking about this? What is the catch?

It's a very, very, very competative scholarship- or so my advisor says.

i've never heard of this. can someone post a link or elaborate? thanks.

elaborate. this sounds better than the army scholarship

It is supposed to be very competitive. Plus, take a look at your options for practice after graduation, they are pretty limited. The dentist I work for tells me not to let money be a factor when choosing a school. She says everyone goes into a ton of debt, and no one has any trouble repaying their loans. Is the scholarship really worth spending 4 years in Butte, Montana?

But for those interested, here is the link:

A friend of mine that attends University of Kentucky actually received the scholarship. She said that it is a great thing as long as you want to do general dentistry for four years because you are not allowed to specialize until after you fufill your four year obligation to NHCS. I think you can do pedo as well, but not any other residency until after your four years are up. For her, it is great because she wants to be a general dentist. She ended up having extra money each semester because UK also had given her a scholarship. Sounds great to me!
