I have received scholarships from Penn and UOP, I was hoping someone could give me advice about negotiating. The Penn scholarship is much larger than the UOP one, but I would much rather go to UOP, so I am wondering if I asked UOP to match the Penn amount they would? I don't want to give them a bad impression because any scholarship at all is great, and it is one of my top choices but I don't know how these things work. Penn will withdraw my scholarship if I don't accept by Dec. 21st so I need to talk to UOP before that. Any ideas?

My impression is that the funds for the scholarships at UOP are pretty limited, they come primarily from funds setup by alumni. You can try and ask, but UOP gets so many applicants and have turned down so many qualified people, they might not be so receptive to your "counter offer".

How were you offered a scholarship? Did they tell you personally or did they mail something with your acceptance offer?

UOP told me on the phone when they called on Dec 1st, Penn sent a letter in the acceptance packet

hmmm... I doubt that UoP will match Penn's offer.
But you can try. I would! This is unrelated but my friend got a job offer that pays 43,000 a year. She called them and ask if they can make it 50,000 because her resume is so awesome and all. I thought the company would turn her down flat, but instead they gave it to her! So.. ask and you shall recieve.... an answer that is.. but still.. ask away!
And good luck!

I agree ask. If you ask tactfully, it probably won't make an unfavorable impression, and the worst thing that could happen is that they will tell you they just cannot. Also, be glad you even have the chance to get scholarships.

I'm thinking they wont do it. Like sherm said, there are probably plenty of people that applied later than you with the same stats that they can give that scholarship to.
