Does anyone know of any vet school scholarships that are given by sources outside of the schools themselves? If anyone knows of any scholarships for equine/large animal vets or NJ residents I would be especially pleased.

I have been looking for private scholarships also. Most are national. So, your residency will not matter. Private scholarships I have found are very specific in their focus.

I have seen vet school scholarships for equine focused students. I was not really intrested in them. They just popped up when I was looking for something else. I think they were under one of the breed associations or something like that.

I have found scholarships also for cattle, which is what I am intrested in. It appears that they are very competitive though. After finding them, one of my friends confessed that she was also applying for it and just didnt tell me because the less that apply - the better her chances are.

It took me over two weeks of careful looking to find some of these. They are there. You just have to find them.

Good Luck!

Even if you are not attending veterinary school for your state you can apply for scholarships through your state veterinary medical association. Local kennel clubs and feline clubs may also have money. If either of your parents work for a large company sometimes they have scholarship funds. I hope that this helps...one of the interviewers at Penn mentioned theses options

You can also check with your local community groups for scholarships.

I'm not sure what they have in your area, but where I'm from we have Kiwanis and Rotary groups (community service clubs) they usually have some scholarships for the local community, and they're really really nice.
