How should I respond to schools who ask me to comment on science grades that I received lower than a B?

Like how would I even answer that without sounding irresponsible? I didn't fail, but the class was just hard?

I got lower than a B in 2 chem classes and a physics class. My science GPA isn't low so no need to make fun of me.

Thanks for the help

Be honest. Don't cover up with silly excuses. If you openly state the class was challenging, an A was, idk, 93+, and a B- was 85-88, its perfectly understandable. Do not attack the professors of the course or the structure, even though they may have hindered you, medical schools will see it as an excuse.

I think there are three possible points you can make without whining or blaming others. One, you learned that you approached the material with an incorrect or unhelpful study methodology. Two, you learned what worked and what didn't work vis-a-vis study methods and were able to successfully apply those methods to subsequent classes X, Y and Z. Three, what this experience taught you that will be helpful in medical school when faced with learning large amounts of material.

You tell the truth

That's....kind of a weird secondary question TBH. Is this a common thing?

It is rare, but not unheard of. A secondary I completed sometime ago required an essay to be filled out if the applicant scored less than or equal to an 8 on any section of the old MCAT.

I've started/finished around 5 secondaries so far, only 1 school asked. So it might not be very common.
But I agree, its a really weird question lol

I had two grades less than a b and was asked this question during an interview. I stated that the class was tough and at first I felt myself falling behind. I had to rework the way I studied and processed information, and I am dang proud of that grade. I was able to pull myself up by the haunches and do what needed to be done. My grade may not be beautiful, but I took away so much from that class, including the knowledge that I can handle the fast pace/large volume of information that will come at me in medical school.

*answer was said a bit more eloquently, but I've just woken up so...* 🙂

This

It's not whiney and it shows that you've learned from the mistakes and corrected them in later courses.

Yea just say the class was challenging and you did your best. Lots of people have gotten below a B at some point.
