Desperately wanting to major in psychology, I want to be a therapist. I'm having some dilemmas in figuring out specifics and I'm looking for some help. Difference in Ph.D and Psy.D?? Also, I don't come from a wealthy family so cost of school does matter but I'd like to get the best education possible in California. Thanks

Use search function. Read extensively. Return with remaining questions.

What erg said--many of your questions have been answered on the forum before, and searching prior posts (and the stickied threads at the top of the main forum list) would be a great place to start.

Additionally, I'll go ahead and say it now--if you are truly dead-set on staying in CA for the entirety of your training, a doctoral degree in psychology has a high probability of being a brutal slog, and more likely than not you'll end up needing to make a variety of compromises (e.g., the quality of your grad program and internship training).
