Most important criteria for schools:

  • Urban.
  • Business school / dual MD-MBA available

Very tentative list: ~24 schools right now (aiming for 25 total);

Top (8):

  • HMS
  • Stanford
  • Columbia
  • Duke
  • NYU
  • UPenn
  • Yale
  • Michigan

High (7):

  • Sinai
  • Baylor
  • Cornell
  • Northwestern
  • UVA
  • UCLA
  • UCSF

Mid (5):

  • USC-Keck
  • URochester
  • Einstein
  • Hofstra
  • Stony Brook

Low (2):

  • SUNY Downstate
  • UBuff

Other (2):

  • Kaiser
  • NYU LI

I made this list of on a whim (haven’t done much research into these schools), so its a bit top heavy (but the goal is balance) Thoughts? Any ones I shouldn’t apply to? Any ones I should consider?

Your list is very top heavy.

Consider:
Georgetown (good MBA program)
George Washington
Case Western
Cincinnati
Boston University
All of your state schools
Emory (good MBA program)
Tufts

Baylor is required to have a class that includes 90% TX residents.

Your expectations are also unreasonable, especially when it comes to scholarships. Unless you have a high 520, you will need to hope that you fit the mission of the schools where you are applying. (If you are working at a very notable consulting firm, I guess that is reflected in your list, but you need to be more reasonable and strategic.)

Having a dual MD/MBA is a nice incentive, but what do you expect to do with that combined degree?

Fair statements - thanks! I guess I might have unreasonable expectations as I went to HYP and had my whole way paid for because of really good financial aid for low-income students. Will certainly keep that in mind.

As for MD-MBA - just gives me options should I decide that doctoring is not my thing. In any case, giving more thought to just dropping the whole med school idea.

But thanks again, @MyOdyssey and @Mr.Smile12 for taking the time to respond 🙂

Okay. Definitely not a great reason to pursue MD/MBA. Keep thinking about what draws you in to be a physician. MBA is no guarantee in this world economy. If anything there are too many.
