So recent circumstances fell through on me and I have decided to apply to dental school now (had planned on applying in a few years from now). I was planning on applying to Medical school, but after talking to people and careful consideration felt like Dentistry would be a better fit.

I have 8 hours shadowing (should be getting more soon), 3.7 gpa (upward trend with 3.97 in last two years) ~3.8 sgpa 150 hours ER volunteer, Wisconsin resident, no DAT yet.

I would like to go somewhere that after a year I could gain in-state tuition, but I feel like I may be a bit late in the cycle and should have some more expensive private safety schools too. I am not opposed to applying HPSP, if I get into only expensive schools.

School list as of now is,

Marquette
UCONN
U-Minnesota
U-Indiana
NOVA
BU
NYU
Detroit Mercy
U-Kentucky (Louisville)
U-Michigan
U-Pittsburgh

I would like to narrow it down a bit as that many would be quite pricey

Thank you for your time and help in advance!

I too am a WI resident.

3.97 the last two years should help you a lot. If you have a solid DAT performance, I think you'd be competitive for Marquette. Perhaps your exposure to dental is something you can think about working on. I say study and keep shadowing.

Are you signed up for Mission of Mercy?

The volunteer work I do is at Mercy hospital, but I have not heard of mission of Mercy?

OH cool---
Mission of Mercy is a two day free clinic (2000 patient visits) in Lake Geneva, WI. It is next weekend (28th-29th). If you get in contact with the right people and are a little persistent, I bet you could still be able to volunteer this upcoming weekend. If nothing else, you could help with set up. I think Marquette looks favorably upon people who get involved with MoM.

I will have to look into that, Lake Geneva isn't even 40 minutes away. Thanks you!
