You shouldn't have so many UC schools if you are a Wisconsin resident. The UCs are competitive even for California residents. Your stats are good, so you have a shot, but I think the time, effort, and money that you would spend applying to the UCs would be better spent to more private schools or more OOS friendly public schools.

And yes, this list is extremely top heavy. Your only safe bets are MCW and University Wisconsin. Everything else on your list is a toss up.

I would add Albert Einstein, Rochester, some Michigan schools, and some Pennsylvania schools. And when I say Pennsylvania schools, I don't mean U Penn, because that would make your list even more top heavy.

I would tell you that, I believe, you aren't allowed to list an unfinished publication as an extracurricular.

+1 with regards to the UCs. Apply to. Few more schools in the top 25 range like Emory, Case, Cornell, ect

Is allowed really the word you're looking for here?

That's what I thought as well, but from what I've read on here and also heard from a few other sources, it isn't okay to list as it's own seperate EC but I can mention this in the description for my research. Do you think that would be okay?

Yup. I would def do that.

You only have 15 hours of shadowing, which is very little. I suggest you do some more shadowing in the few months before interviews so that you can at least talk about it in interviews. The average number of shadowing hours people list is 50, but if you get a good mix of specialties in you can get away with less. Just be sure you can talk about it knowledgeably in an interview. Overall, strong application. It is top heavy, but that's okay, if you add more schools. I know you want to apply to fewer than 15 schools but that's setting yourself up precariously because top schools are always a crapshoot. I'd apply to ~5 schools that you are above median at, and I think I only see two there.

Additionally, you have some leeway to add more schools in the 'reach' range if you want. I applied to 14 schools this past cycle and I really wish I had applied to more. Just make sure you pre-write your secondaries when you can so you don't get burnt out with the essays.

I definitely agree about the shadowing -- I think it's really a weak point in my app. I work 9-5 during the week so I'm trying to see if I can set something up for evenings or weekends.

Anyways, I updated my list. Took out UCLA and UCSD and then added a few, mostly match/safety schools then also Cornell. I have >15 now, which I'm not too crazy about but I think I'll live. I suppose I would consider adding a few more.

UCSF
Stanford
Columbia
NYU
Mount Sinai
Cornell
Harvard
University of Chicago
Northwestern

University of Rochester
Boston University
MCW
University of WI
Georgetown
George Washington
Temple

Looks like a pretty good list. I will caution you about some of your schools though; you have above average stats at BU, GWU and Gtown but those three schools get an outrageous number of applications each year so your chances aren't as good there as you might think. I'd add one or two more that you have a strong chance at, and if you don't want to apply to more schools then perhaps you could replace one of the DC schools.

Regardless, even if you change nothing, I think you have a successful cycle coming up.
