Hey Everyone, first time poster.
I would appreciate insight on some school suggestions. I am wanting to pursue a competitive subspecialty so ultimately I want to have ample access to research opportunities. Otherwise I more public health oriented. I also left some things more vague for sake of anonymity.
Thank you for any suggestions and good luck everyone!
Residence: In WWAMI Region (Could be identified from rural state) and ORM (White Male) but from medical underserved area and first generation college student.
sGPA/cGPA/MCAT: 4.0/4.0/519
Major: Public Health
Shadowing: 100 hours (various specialties) over two years
Clinical: ~900 Medical Assisting. Will also be taking a gap year and trying to Medical Assist again full time so roughly ~2000 more
Volunteering: ~340 for local domestic abuse shelter, ~90 for summer camp for underprivileged intercity kids
Leadership: President of a club oriented at collecting medical donations (trying to remain anonymous) ~200 hours, member of a financial board ~200 hours, taught student discussion section ~100 hours, community service chairman for campus organization ~40 hours
Research: 600 Hours in molecular biology research (through INBRE and as lab tech) with two poster presentations (no pubs :/), 50 hours through a research class with one poster presentation
Jobs: Stem tutor ~130 hours, and Anatomy lab instructor and cadaveric dissector ~600 hours
"X Factor": A very unique experience in another place for a couple months that was completely unrelated to medicine and solidified I missed medicine, is too unique to specify.
School List MD (not in any particular order):
Ultimately looking for recommendations on more schools, trying to apply to 30. I feel like I'm in a tough spot because my GPA/MCAT puts me in range for competitive schools, but my EC's although strong, I don't feel are great (can't tell if this is imposter syndrome or real).
Thank you again for your help!
