How to format your WAMC thread

Hi ! I am looking to add 8 more schools to my pre-existing list. For a bit of background, I am from Georgia but went to a small liberal arts university in Virginia. I am interested in endocrinology/diabetes and public health initiatives that use food as medicine. I am interested in public health but still not sure if I want to get an MPH!

I am interested in pediatrics and endocrinology (& perhaps pediatric endo) ! I think that I can live most places (haven't been to the midwest, but seems great!) and have lived in both a big city / rural area. I have visited Boston and loved it, so need to look into/do more research on Boston schools.
  1. GPA: 3.99
  2. MCAT score: 516 but low CARS (126)
  3. State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US): GA
  4. Ethnicity and/or race: Asian / White
  5. Undergraduate institution: W&L (Academic Scholarship)
    1. Major: Neuroscience
    2. Minor: Poverty and Human Capability Studies
  6. Clinical experience:
    1. EMT-B - 100 hours
    2. Nursing extender at pediatrician - 400 hours
  7. Research experience
    1. Undergraduate Research on IBS - 150 hours
    2. Gap Year Position doing Orthopedic Clinical Research (full time)
    3. Minor Capstone Research Project on the future of Diabetes Care and Prevention (this doesn't mean much to schools I know, but it meant so much to my own medical journey in clarifying my interests!)
  8. Shadowing experience and specialties represented
    1. 80 ish hours (OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Urology, Endocrinology, Orthopedic Surgery)
    2. Anticipated hours with Internal medicine / pathology (planned) and then looking to reach out to other providers
  9. Non-clinical volunteering
    1. Volunteer at Food as Medicine Program in Atlanta - 200 hours
    2. Peer Counselor at school = 200 hours
    3. Dementia Art Therapy volunteer = 40 hours
    4. Remote Area Medical Volunteer (only did one session but looking to do lots of them during gap year, this was so fun!)
  10. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc.)
    1. VP of a club that volunteers at elementary schools and traches young girls STEM topics

Current List:

1) Medical College of Georgia
2) Emory
3) VCU
4) EVMS
5) UVA (reach)
6) GW
7) Georgetown
8) Wake Forest

(this list was made initially because I narrowed down the states I am really interested in living in! I love Georgia but also loved going to college in Virginia (I love Charlottesville). I also love DC and have a lot of family/friends living there and I like how close Wake is to home.

Looking to add 8 more!
Some schools I am considering adding
1) Creighton (like the Jesuit mission / commitment to public health) so also looking for other jesuit schools (I went to catholic high school / my mom is catholic)
2) Tulane (haha one of my favorite med school influencers goes here and it looks like a great place)
3) Mercer (in state but I think they want people who are committed to rural medicine, and while I am interested, I am not committed)
4) Vermont (I love this school! They seem to have a good curriculum but I am worried that being from Georgia might make me a less competitive applicant here
5) BU (my aunt really likes BU / I like boston!)

trying not to have a huge list because of how expensive it is but open to any schools! thank you so much for your help 🙂
