Summarize your results from your other two attempts (interviews, decisions). Where else did you apply previously? On 3rd cycle. Just got MCAT retake back only went up from a 507 to 508. 3.9 GPA. TX resident. ORM. 900 hrs clinical and nonclinical research. 200 shadowing. 900 PT aide hours. 150 non clinical volunteering. Would appreciate any recommendations on which OOS schools to add to my school list that my stats are competitive for and that aren’t too biased against TX applicants, reapplicants, or OOS applicants in general.
Thanks in advance!
OOS MD schools admit few Texas residents since they know from years of experience that Texas residents will attend a Texas school. Rush expects hundreds or thousands of hours of non clinical volunteering. New Mexico only admits ~2 non residents per year. Apply broadly to DO schools instead of OOS MD.Here’s is what I’m roughly planning on so far let me know if there’s any that are low yield or any that I am missing: U Arkansas, UNM, Rush, U of Vermont, Drexel, temple, Oklahoma, Wayne state, wright state, Rosalind, u of SC, Az Tucson, and MCW
Neat, congrats. I’m happy for you.Just wanted to follow up. I have had multiple OOS MD A’s. Just wanted to let you know so that you would be more mindful in telling mid stat/mcat tx applicants not to apply OOS MD
Thanks
Thank you, I appreciate it. And I get where you’re coming from. I wasn’t trying to say anyone was “wrong,” just wanted to share the update. There were a few things that changed between cycles, and I’m happy to talk about them if it’s helpful for others. Either way, I’m grateful for the advice and the support. Thanks again.Neat, congrats. I’m happy for you.
I stand by the advice I gave in general, particularly given that you are in your third cycle. Suspect there is some additional context that would be helpful, or something else that changed from your second cycle to your third that helped you get an A this time around. It looks like you’ve edited out or never provided much context beyond your numbers, which is your prerogative. But flying in to say “well I got in so you were wrong” without unpacking some of the potential reasons why you were successful where others have historically not been is equally unhelpful.
Regardless, congratulations on your success, and good luck in your career.
