Good mix of schools. I think you should make one addition.....UCLA!!!

thanks...yeah im still thinking about ucla and a few others...trying to keep my list down as much as i can!

No way, you're set! Great applicant!

With those stats you can pick and choose. You will most likely get interviews everywhere you apply, and may even turn some down.

That link is great. 👍

hahahahaha

I would give up on Mayo...since I have been here I was told you need a letter from someone at Mayo, and its 40 out of 6,000. Other than that, rock on.

thanks for the advice! yeah i wasn't really sure about mayo - it just seemed like a unique and interesting place so i thought i might try...another question - im thinking about deferring for a year, and i've heard some schools are really strict about the types of things they'll allow you to do. i took a lot of french in high school and some in college, but i didn't really have time to keep it up after sophomore year...basically i really want to travel, refresh my french and learn other languages - would med schools generally look down upon going to europe for a few months for a language program, like a "learn spanish in spain" kind of thing? personally i think this would be really beneficial to my med school preparation, especially if i were learn spanish...are there any schools that are really picky about this or particularly anti-deferral that anyone knows of? thanks...

Hey WUgrl,

Everything looks good! Excellent undergrad/GPA/MCAT/EC's. But still, aren't you a little bit worried that your list might be a little bit top-heavy? Maybe you might want to add more "safety schools" then can drop out of them once you get into one of those fine schools on your list. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

wu girl, i applied in 2003 and since i had similar stats from wash u (36 3.65 gpa), i thought i would share my list with you.

harvard, hopkins, duke, upenn, wash u, ucsf
case, emory, northwestern, u chicago, stanford
indiana, slu, tufts, tulane, jefferson

i got interviews offers from case, emory, chicago, wash u, slu, indiana, and tulane

but then i got a merit scholarship early from my state school so i only went on a few of the interviews (waitlisted at chicago and wash u but withdrew)

if your foreign language skills are strong, you could do a fulbright teaching assistantship in france... not too difficult to get and it looks good on one's resume. applications due in october. provided that the med school allows deferral, i don't think they'd particularly care what type of experience you were having... 🙂

if your list of schools is in order of preference, i think you'll be alright because i would think you'd get into washu. why in the world you want to stay in st louis is beyond me.

thanks for the input everyone! no it's not really order of preference....just trying to find a variety of schools i could see myself at...i would kinda like to get away from st. louis, but it would be hard to turn down wash u if i did get in...just want to see what happens!
