Ok, I'm ready to submit my application to AADSAS. Any thoughts on this list of schools considering I have a 3.0ish cumulative and Science GPA which includes a 3.7 Master's GPA and a 20AA/19TS/19PAT most recent DAT:

NOVA
Creighton
Marquette
UNC (my state school)
Louisville
Maryland

(am also considering)
VCU
Michigan

Any thoughts?

This sounds like a good list. You have a great chance at these schools, but which is your safety school? Just in case something bad happens it might be a good idea to apply to NYU or something.

Am I the only person on this forum not applying to either BU or NYU? Seems like everyone and their brother applies to at least one or both of these schools as "safety schools".

I am not sure if everyone who applies there thinks of them as their last choice since i know many who would love to go to BU or NYU (mostly people on the west coast... dont know why). on the other hand however, there are only 50 dental schools in the country, with only nearly half being private. So, there will be a great overlap in the private schools applied to. Columbia (with a class of about 75, i think) claims that nearly one out of every 5 applicant applies there also. With the recent increase in # of applicants and hence the competition, many schools are receiving more than 1700 applications. So, they, too, can claim that everyone and their brother and sister is applying to their school!!

Thanks for the input! NYU and BU are pretty much out for me for personal (family) reasons. I hadn't really considered any of the schools as 'safety' schools, though. My obvious 1st choice is the state school (UNC), but I would certainly consider any of the privates or publics on that list. As long as the location isn't in a mega city (NYC or Boston), I'll be happy!

Any thoughts on Michigan or VCU? I applied to VCU last year and was turned down without interview, although my DAT was lower (19AA/18TS/17PAT).
