Greetings-

I'm just curious if school psych folks can share their experiences:

For those like me applying to APPIC internship this fall, what sorts of internship sites are you applying to?

For those completing an APPIC internship or who have completed an APPIC internship, what sort of internship sites did you complete?

For both "groups", what, if any, type of practicum sites (CMHC, hospital, etc.) did you complete outside of school settings?

Thanks!

I'm on an APA internship this year at a CMHC after having completed externships in pretty much every type of setting except inpatient, and CMHC. Since a lot of my hours were school-based and clinic based, the CMHC ended up being a really good fit.

In terms of applying, I found that writing the cover letters to sites helped me narrow down which sites would be best for me. Even though I had a list of over 20 sites, there were about 7 sites where I couldn't write a convincing cover letter making the argument that I was a great fit for them.

When it's time to write that letter, you are scrutinzing the site's website and brochure material looking for ways that you "match" with them. If you have a realistic take on your skills and what you have to offer, you will get a good idea as to wether the fit is there or not from the exercise of writing these letters.
