School ranking...What is it based on?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was just wondering what USnews.com bases its medical school rankings on...

How do they rank primary care schools? Reasearch?

thanks

Their site provides explanations. Neither is based on very sound science. Research rankings are most strongly driven by research grant $. Primary care list tends not to be used on the pre-allo board because the research rankings more closely mirror folks notions of prestige, and there is no good evidence that the schools at the top of the primary care rankings actually do better at primary care training. So folks here tend to rely on the list with schools like Harvard and Hopkins at the top.

I think it's something akin to what the goblins do in Gringotts'.

It's based on artibrary information that rarely affects you as a med student, maybe a tiny bit in picking a residency, but not enough to ache over. Saving for when you're studying for your Step Is. That score DOES matter, regardless of whatever school you went to.
