HELLO all

I was wondering if it would be ok to mention price as a factor for choosing a school more specific the idea of staying in your home town and not having to move out..
would it be better to phrase this as a cost issue or staying at home and not having to deal with the stree of moving away as a reason for choosing a school

thanks

You don't want to mention either of those directly. As with everything else on these apps you have to put a twist on your reasons; make them appealing. The cost thing might be better mentioned later in the application cycle like at an interview or something. Even then, I would first talk about all the other reasons you want to go to the school (special things the program offers, etc) and only after that would I mention that you also favor that the school has reasonable tuition yada yada yada. As for the home town thing, you need to state your reason for wanting to stay in town besides saving on rent and stuff. Do you intend on working in this city once you become a pharmacist? Then again I could be wrong, and you might just as easily be able to tell them the direct truth. This was just my dos centavos.

As Doc mentioned, you don't want to mention either one directly. Basically, you have to remember that you need to give them reasons to choose you, and not the other way around. They want someone who is "a best fit" to their program, so you should focus on their program, and how you can become a part of it.

If a question asks you "why you are choosing ABC?" Go check the schools mission statement (hint: look at reputation, legacy, community commitment, what type of pharmacists they produce, curriculum, what they expect from their students), and how you can be a part of it.
