These stats were published by the American Student Dental Association in their latest handbook. The order goes as follows: Ratio of applicants/accepted, avg GPA of last year's entering class, avd DAT of last years entering class (academic/perceptual) arranged alphabetically according to state. I hope all of the applicants for 2003 find these useful! But don't let them discourage you either, because they are only averages!

Not a problem at all! I like to help out whenever I can. Plus, typing all of that allowed me to procrastinate from the work I should have been doing, and I never have a complaint about that :wink:

As for the stats, no typos. Columbia is 24/1. That is actually down from what it was the year before (29/1!!) And Georgia is 2.48/1. I think that the reason Georgia's is so low is because they only accept Georgia residents, so they must only get Georgia applicants. The same with Louisiana State (3/1). They only take Louisiana and I think Arkansas residents. Colorado is another 24/1, but their class size is only 38! So they are only able to accept a few over that number.

Well, I just realized that I should have posted class sizes too. If you guys bug me enough, I'll provide that info! 😀 Actually, I will very willingly type it out tomorrow when I have more work to proctastinate on 😛

Yeah Georgia is crazy...I think they only get around 100-150 applicants a year and accept almost half (as the stat shows)...so, if you want to be sure to get in to school with little competition, move to GA and get a southern accent.

didn't you say that NYU is one of the easiest school to get into??
cuz seems to me that (from the stat) NYU isnt that easy.... 🙂

When I applied to NYU, I based my judgment on the stats for the 2004 graduating class and the ratio was 6/1 which is pretty good. In one year, that changed a lot! But more good news for NYU is that they take a class size of 220 or more, so they have to accept more students to fill those spaces. That is twice as much as most schools or more! Another thing with NYU is that the tuition is very high, so they may have a high turnover rate....have more accepted students turn down the offer because they chose to go somewhere less affordable. But personally, I think that NYU is well worth the money because it is one of the strongest schools clinically with a large diverse patient pool.

The SIU stat is WRONG!!!!! Thats UIC's

UIC= GPA: 3.27, science: 3.18 dat:18.7 pat18
SIU= GPA: 3.50, science: 3.30 dat:18.3, pat 17.2

UIC= 992 with 64 accepted 15.5/1
SIU= 535 with 50 accepted 10.7/1

I'm new to this forum and have just started researching dental schools. You listed Georgia as a dental school. Does this refer to the University of Georgia or some other school? By the way, could you please list the class sizes of the dental schools whenever you get a chance?

Just wanted to point out that Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry is not an easy school to get in to. I called the Office of Admissions a couple of weeks ago, and was told that the incoming class for 2003 has overall and science GPAs of 3.5 and DAT averages close to 19. The fact that the school accepts only Georgia residents probably has a high correlation to the applicants/accepted ratio.

I didnt necessarily say it was easy to get in to MCG, I simply said that the competition is less due to the number of applicants. When you know that there is an almost 50% chance you will be accepted, the stress of trying to stand out above 1000-2000 applicants is no longer so great. My roommate (a GA native) is in the process of applying to MCG and is excited about his chances-not that it is easy (none are) but that it is perhaps easier than, say, a school with a 20:1 ratio. Univ. of Tenn. wasnt easy to get in to, but the 5/1 ratio and in-state status made me much less worried about my interview there than I was at UConn!
