Hello, I am new to the forum here. It seems like there is a wealth of information from a bunch of wonderful people!!

Before you applied to various d-schools, did you visit each school? I have toured the schools that I am super-interested in attending, but I am concerned about the ones that I have not been in personal contact with as of yet. I can only imagine the cost of visiting the schools that are 1,000+ miles away!! Yeeesh!! 🙂

If you have the financial means and time to make these visits, then go for it. I had neither the time nor money to make such visits, so I used my interview trips to explore to areas and decide if I was accepted and had a choice, where would I really want to go...

unless the school is close by or you're in town on vacation you should visit. Otherwise its smart to wait for an interview. If you don't get an interview, you most likely won't get accepted (except for a few people on sdn to NYU) and the money/time spent to tour the school would be wasted.

i agree. if you happen to be there and you have the time, then definitely check it out.
if you don't like it, then you know you shouldn't bother applying there.

but don't waste exorbitant amts of money to fly around to every school you applied to.

there are schools that i realised right away that i didn't want to live in that city, so i basically withdrew my application. had i seen the school before, i probably wouldn't have bothered to apply and could've saved my application and secondary fees.
but there's no reason to jetset around unless you're planning to visit there already.
