Schools are asking for DAT retake

I have received letters from two schools so far asking for new DAT score.

I knew that my DAT scores were not good enough but why would they ask for me to retake it? Why won't they just reject if i didn't meet the criteria?

I am sooooo confused.

I don't think i'll have enough to prepare for the second DAT before this semester is over. I have so much things going on since this is my last year. I don't know if i should retake it before december even though im not ready..

Any advice here?????

Maybe they just love love love you as an applicant!? Did they specify which year? Maybe they mean for next cycle and will send a rejection letter later. It's probably because you have a great PS, letters, grades etc just dat is what sux & they would sincerely love to have you attend they school but just cant accept because they need to meet their standards..
what were ur scores?
I'm in the same boat with my top choice, except i have never heard of a letter being sent out- never got one from any school, my top choice told me in person

one was through e-mail and one was by the letter.

They specifically told me that they will defer any action on my case until they receive my new DAT score.

My scores were 16/16/18

I know it is really low so i was expecting rejections but what is this????

If i were you id go for it what do u have to loose? only to gain. hats y ill try too

Why are you complaining about NOT being rejected? It's a good thing that they're telling you to retake. It means they're still considering you and your chances of getting an interview/acceptance this cycle is still good if you just retake and get higher DAT scores. You must have met their other criteria, if the DAT is the only thing they want to see improved.

I assume you have good GPA. What dental schools asked you for DAT retake?

I agree with dentista. I don't think these schools would ask you to retake your DAT to raise it 2 or 3 points, perhaps, if they didn't like what they saw in your application.

One was from Creighton and one was from SIU.

SIU admissions office told me that i would be safe if i took it before Feb, ill be fine.

I mean, i guess it is a good thing that they just didn't reject me but if they are just telling me to take another one "just because", i don't want to take another DAT UNPREPARED!!

I'm gonna wait a little and see what other schools say. lol

p.s my gpa is 3.88 lol i guess it's good enough

not a letter, UOP told me in person- i volunteer there. i dont think i have a chance unless i get an easy miracle version of the dat lol but i sure will try!!
I asked creighton if i should retake they wrote: ".I would not recommend a retake for you. Usually if an applicant has below 17 in the Academic Average, Perceptual Ability or Total Science, they are asked to retake the test.".
