Anyone have experience with this

None of my letter writings was called. That's anecdotal, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say they don't make it a habit. That'd be really, really time consuming.

Maybe on a random selection basis, or when something is "suspicious"? Or high profile recommenders, maybe?

I doubt it's routine.
