The theme of my application is mental health and mental illness, etc. I have built a school list targeting schools in which my GPA, MCAT, and LizzyM are a good fit.

I also want to target some schools that are known for their psychiatry programs or known for emphasizing psychiatry. Maybe some schools known for high match rates in psychiatry.

Any ideas?

Thanks! @LizzyM @ChrisMack390

Questions: with a LizzyM of 73; 186 hours non-clinical volunteering; 270 hours clinical volunteering; etc. and strong experience in psychiatry with LORs etc., do you imagine it is worth my while to apply to Yale? It's a bit of a reach, understandably...

UCSF and Harvard...and most of the other top schools.

If you don't have top school stats, Downstate usually has a great psych match list (doximity has it as a top feeder school to Brigham's psych residency) and I'm sure you will get to see a lot of.....interesting stuff at places like Downstate, Tulane, and UMiami

Read up on the Yale System and determine if it is right for you. Also be aware that a thesis is required for graduation so some emphasis is placed on selecting applicants who are going to be excited about the requirement to do an original research project.

I would imagine schools with a large, urban population would have lots of psych opportunities

Its not whether there are lots of crazy people around but if the medical school has opportunities for good clerkship experiences in psych and opportunities for research in psych and is held in high esteem by psych residency directors.

I didn't have the stats for UMD but a cousin of mine went there and had friends who participated in their Combined Accelerated Program in Psychiatry (CAPP) and loved it. I was highly interested in the program when I applied!
