Hey guys!

I'm sitting on two waitlists but it's that time to submit my application again rather than holding out hope. I'm a reapplicant and you can see my ECs and previous schoools list on my MDApps. Long story short of it : 2 years research, full time job throughout college, TA/Tutor, shadowing, volunteering, EMT-B Certificate.
I'm making a pretty drastic change from last year as far as which schools I'm applying to.

Right now, it stands as these schools but I'd like to nix a few or suppliment with some others. Colorado Resident, went to undergrad at Syracuse in NY.

Univ. Arkansas
Keck
Stanford* (dream school but I know realistically I have no real shot)
UCSF*
George Washington*
Georgetown*
Univ. Miami
Emory
Rosalind Franklin
Univ. IL* (Waitlisted currently)
Indiana Univ.
Univ. Iowa
Tulane
Hopkins*
Univ. Maryland
Boston
U Mich*
St. Louis
NYMC
NYU *
SUNY Downstate
Univ. Buffalo
Duke * (Waitlisted currently)
Wake Forest
Toledo
Drexel
Penn State
Med Univ of South Carolina
Univ. Vermont
Virginia Commonwealth
Maybe Mayo. I'm not thrilled about MN

* schools I applied to last cycle.

I haven't really looked into any of the newer schools so if anyone's heard anything about them, opinions are appreciated!

apply to oakland and hofstra, both seem to have great programs.

i'd apply to 4-5 more schools just to increase the odds.

good luck!

You're not applying to Colorado even though you're a resident?

Whops. Forgot that one on the list 😛 I definantly am (did an intership at their cancer center).
And the problem with adding schools is I'm already at 31. I applied to 25 last year and that's *a lot* of secondaries. I might add Florida International to the list as well I think....

You really shouuld have applied to more safeties last cycle.

Thanks for that constructive critique? Cause I can totally change which schools I applied to last cycle....

Anyone else care to chime in? I'm finishing up my PS stuff and will probably submit by the end of the week.

What have you done since you last applied? Many of those schools you applied to last year are still tremendous reaches and probably will not reconsider you if you have not sufficiently improved your application. I might drop a few of your reaches and add some more mid tier schools.

Sorry but 30P is not nearly good enough for Hopkins/Stanford and some of the big name schools up there. You said it yourself some of these are not realistic (then why apply)... I would save the $$$ and reapply to schools that you are more competitive at like SLU and UCI etc...

I wouldn't apply to UCI as a Colorado resident. But I agree Stanford is not realistic.

Good luck, OP! :luck:

Creighton? It's in Nebraska and has a 30 MCAT avg.

I'm keeping my uber reach schools to a bare minimum but it never hurts to dream big. Example: I never thought I had any real shot at Duke but between my PS/Research/GPA, they interviewed and waitlisted me. So you never know. Oh, and I just recalculated my GPAs for anyone else there who might find it useful: cGPA: 3.90 sGPA: 3.85 (damn orgo)
I added more schools and rearranged some and I think I've got a decently solid list. 35 schools in total.

My list as it stands thus far:

Big Reaches: (MCAT >34)
Hopkins
UMich
Stanford
Vandy

Reaches: (MCAT 34ish except Duke because I got WL there)
Duke
Keck
UCSF
Emory
NYU

Decent shot: (MCAT 32-33)
Boston Univ.
St. Louis Univ.
Univ. Colorado
Georgetown
Univ. Miami
Indiana Univ
Univ. Iowa
Univ. Maryland
SUNY at Buffalo
Wake Forest
Penn State
Hofstra
Oakland

Fit Schools: (MCAT 29-31)
Florida International University
Rosalind Franklin
Univ. Illinios
Tulane
NYMC
SUNY Downstate
Univ. Toledo
Drexel
Univ. Vermont
Virginia Commonwealth
George Washington
Med. Univ. South Carolina
Univ. Arkansas

In general, I based classifications soley on MCAT scores because my GPA isn't going to be the limiting factor anywhere and would probably bump things around. I applied to a lot of NY schools because I did my undergrad there. And I didn't apply to any OOS that had less than 20% of their class OOS.

Oh, and for the person wondering what I've done since I last applied:
I continued shadowing while I was in college and doing research. I graduated in December and moved back home (which took about 2 months to get settled in). I've basically been working nonestop since. Since I graduated, my mom was diagnosed with cancer (SCC) so a lot of my spare time is spent helping her out (she lives alone on a farm and had needed help). I'm working on writing patent applications for my PI back in NY so he can submit papers for publication on our research. I might take a few grad classes in the fall at Univ. CO Boulder to keep my mind sharp. Nothing groundbreaking but I've been keeping myself busy.
