Hello, I have clinical experience, but I have not been able to get to know a physician DO or MD well enough to get a LOR from them. I have come to find many DO schools require this.

Can anyone tell me what DO schools do not require a LOR from a physician?

Thanks.

I applied to 12 schools. All required a physician (MD or DO) or (DO only) LOR. GL. How did you get your clinical experience? Have you considered shadowing?

UMDNJ is the only one I know of. Oh and I think MSUCOM also.

Oh yeah. Thanks EEL... MSU doesn't require one.

PCOM-GA said it was recommended, but not required. Is PCOM the same?

PCOM
MSU
UMDNJ
Iowa (can get it from supervisor where you volunteered)

are the ones i know of
i'm in the same position as you
did lot of work in the ER, but didn't specifically get to know any of the DOs there
considering having a long time family friend (MD) write me a letter so i can apply to CCOM atleast

I volunteered a hospital recovery room, where doctors came in and out all the time.

I currently volunteer at a hyperbaric chamber for diving accidents and work along side baywatch paramedics, the doctor flies in to diagnose or pronounce a patient but I am only in contact with the doctor while we are working on the patient. The doctor exits and I have to decompress in the chamber, by the time that is over the doctor is long gone.

I would check with specific schools that you are interested in. I had a similar problem but with my science professor LOR. I have a lot of physicians willing to write letters for me (MD and DO). I never got to know any of my science professors well enough to get LORs from them. I went to lecture and lab, did the work, took the tests and that is it. I never got to know the professors. I asked a the schools I was interested in what I should do and most of them told me to substitute the faculty LOR with a letter or two from a physician. There was only one school that still required I get a letter from a science faculty member. I did not continue with their application!
