Hi everyone! Well I'm a non-trad, B.S. in Biology from a good university, Masters in Education from Stanford, now I'm almost through with my second year teaching high school science. Basically, I've been working more than full time and teaching is a ton of work, so I've had very little time to accumulate much experience since I decided to career-break a year ago.
I'm going to apply next cycle (2012), with little expectation for the first time applying. But I want to know if I have any chance at all with these numbers. If I don't get in, I'll have to quit my job and try to continue getting more experience. My IS and #1 choice is Davis, and I know their average is 3,000 hours! But I don't know as much about other schools, so I'm looking for some insight from anywhere!!
So my big question is: What are the schools that don't require or expect as many experience hours?? Here is some more detail about my situation...
Here's the experience I plan to have by applying in Fall 2012:
100 hours volunteering at zoo
60 hours volunteering/walking dogs at dog shelter
100 hours shadowing/volunteering in local vet clinic
6 weeks (~300 hours?) volunteering with farm animals and a small animal clinic in India
1.5 months (~200 hours?) working as a vet assistant in a vet clinic
= Total ~760 hours
Compared to mostly everyone else the experience numbers above just look so pathetic... But my other stats are a bit better:
Undergrad Overall GPA: 3.42
Science GPA: 3.91
Grad-school GPA: 3.94
GRE Verbal: 640, Quantitave: 740, Writing: 5.0
