Hi All,

Briefly my story:

Didn't consider being a doctor through first 2 years of undergrad. Did poorly ~2.5cGPA. Got motivated, turned it around (last 2 semesters >3.5) finished with a 3.1 sGPA and cGPA about the same. Got a 37 on the MCAT did an SMP got a 4.0.
My ECs are pretty standard, strong research and volunteering.
Clinical exposure on the low end, but existent.

Now I'm applying and wondering if there are any schools that have a reputation for taking people who have made big life changes. Just curious as to where I should be casting my net.

Yes many schools. Try your local state school first. I would also throw out Tulane, because they like high MCAT scores. 32 is their minimum, and I think a 37 would raise their eyebrows enough. Your SMP is also enough to prove an upward trend. As long as you don't apply yourself out of a spot (e.g. only applying to top tier schools like Harvard, Columbia, etc.) you should have a lot of interviews. If I were in your shoes I would apply to a wide range of mid-tier schools and choose about 3 -5 "dream schools" and see if any of them bite.

Good luck

Case

I don't know if this is a coincidence, but I am a non-trad 'bootstraps' applicant with decent stats but not so robust EC's and those are the only top ~30ish schools which interviewed me (also CCLCM). Nice list Goro!
