Schools that require a year of coursework in the states

So i'm a canadian in freshman year at a provincial university

Browsing johns hopkins admissions site to get an idea of how welcoming med schools are for internationals, I read this:

Prospective applicants who have exclusively studied outside the United States, in most cases, must have their academic course work supplemented by a year or more of course work in an accredited university in the United States.

My question is- how many other schools require this? Do most? Is it worth it for me to transfer to a US school for either my junior year, or my senior year? I'll be paying more if i do, but if it's almost essential then...

The only other one I can think of off the top of my head is Harvard- like I said here http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=673195 --you're probably just going to have to bite the bullet and look at each school individually on their sites to see their policies on admitting foreign students (as I don't believe there is a comprehensive list for what you are trying to find out). To be safe, I would transfer to the US if it that is possible, although I know it is not as easy said as it is done...

In other instances Canadian students have been admitted to medical schools that state they do not accept applications from foreign students.

It makes this all the more confusing because it seems to be so variable. Going back to the johns hopkins quote, it says in most cases, which makes me wonder- is that year of coursework mainly for students coming from areas other than canada where the education systems are so different? To be honest i wouldn't mind transferring if i could, it's just really expensive compared to here.
