Anyone know which schools have a GPA cutoff? I have a weak GPA and a strong MCAT. Some schools have a formula that includes both GPA and MCAT and I will apply to those, but if there are schools that cutoff GPA at say 3.5 regardless of MCAT and then I don't want to spend money applying.

Anyone know which schools have these cutoffs?

I know that OHSU has an MCAT cutoff (24) and would assume that they also have a GPA cutoff. But, I don't have any idea what it might be.

Actually I know one offhand: Emory. Their cutoff is apparently a 3.7 (altho that seems very high. I imagine that applying w/ a 3.65 wouldn't get you rejected right away). But they say 3.7 in the MSAR.

Some state schools give cutoffs in the MSAR for out-of-state students. I know both UK and UofL do this.

I think Emory's "cutoff" is more to scare away applicants that would have much of a chance of matriculation because of their GPA.(Just like those stupid % chance to matriculate numbers the UC schools put out - it's to cut the potential number of applicants so they don't have to work as hard.) If I remember right their average GPA for admitted students is around 3.7, maybee a little lower. That would mean that students having lower than 3.7 would have had to have been admitted to pull the average down form the students with a higher than 3.7 GPA. If the low end cutoff was 3.7, gaussian distribution would state that the mean would lie somewhere around 3.85 and would relfect the average GPA for those admitted. Go ahead and apply, worse case you loose $30 and find out you didn't get in to Emory. (Ohh noo!)

I know Miami has a cutoff of 3.6 for out of staters. Average GPA for their matriculating class is 3.7. If you go through the MSAR, a lot of schools will say "applicants are discouraged from applying unless they have at least a 3.X GPA, etc." Just gotta look.
