Hi I searched the forums but didn't find a close enough match to this question...

I was looking at tuition fees for one of the medical schools I applied to and I noticed that tuition changed pretty drastically between years. Notably, first year was about 40K and the last year closer to 20K. I don't know if this is just a one-off thing this particular school does (it's also Canadian), but it made me curious - Does anyone know of any schools that have different tuition from year-to-year?

Some schools have higher tuition during the third and fourth year because the school year is the whole calendar year instead of the 8 months that you're used to in college/pre-clinical.

Many schools also calculate cost of attendance including things like rent, food, costs of national exams, etc. So for a school year that's 12 months, they'll include 12 months of rent, but for a school year that's 9 or 10 months, they only include those months rent. Plus the fees for taking Step 1 and 2 exams.

This chart is specific to USC but might still help explain. http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/graduates2/medical/Cost.html

Edit: Obvs this doesn't account for 20k, but certainly contributes!

Almost every school will hike tuition during your 4 years.
