After reading through the "School You Would Never Apply To" thread, I though we should discuss the reverse.

What are some schools you WISH you had considered/heard good things about the application/interview process?

Not based on application/interviews, but on friends I know that went/graduated from there, I think I would've liked OHSU, Mayo, Baylor, Cleveland Clinic, and Wisconsin.

I wish I had applied to University of Washington, USC, Stanford, and Mayo. I just thought I had no chance 🙂 but I thought I would be a great fit, especially for UW.

University of Toronto. But I'd be international and have no chance most likely.

Baylor College of Medicine. I figured I had no shot so didn't bother applying, but I probably should have done it anyway.

Toledo- They accept nearly every out of state student they interview. I actually had considered them, but I didn't know about that until after it was too late.

Southern DO schools- I'd rather have a DO school in Florida/Georgia as a back up than one in New York. But oh well.

I wish I'd been a little more ambitious- I didn't apply to any top-10's and now I wish I had. Probably wouldn't have worked out, but at least I wouldn't have to wonder!

None. I applied to every single med school that interested me, and I did not learn anything since then that changed my mind. I spent a TON of time researching schools before applying FWIW...if anything, I wish I had applied to fewer schools.

Exception: I wish I had applied to Columbia only, and not to the Bassett program. I feel like my app fell in a hole for what turned out to be the extremely competitive Bassett program...this was its first year, and it got swamped...and as the app cycle progressed, I frankly grew less interested in the program anyway.

Dartmouth and Harvard. Didn't apply to Dartmouth for... uhh... honestly I have no idea why. Didn't apply to Harvard because I only had half a year of calc, but I have a half year of stats as well and from everything that I've heard now, they're more than willing to overlook something minor like that.

Basically I wish I had applied to more schools outside of Texas. The problem is, I don't think I could have justified going anywhere out of state without some very hefty scholarships/grants.
