hi everyone,
i had a question regarding science gpa's. i currently have a science gpa of about 3.5-3.55 (i don't know if that matters and a cumulative of about 3.55), and i noticed that although i have recieved many A's and A+'s and never recieved a C, that a lot of my A's come from research units. that is not to say that i haven't recieved A's from the usual (g-chem, o-chem, bio's, and physics), but i have recieved a lot of A's from research that I believed helped me with my Science GPA. In addition, I have not been published and have been there for about 2 1/2 years, but the thing is, I enjoy my position so much because it allows me to have interaction with prenatal patients. I assist in genetic counseling and this may even count as clinical exposure? Will this hurt me? Thank you very much for all your help!

I think a 3.5+ with an MCAT of around 32+ would get you a couple acceptances. A 3.5 with a 30+ would give you a good shot at schools as well...but maybe lower ranked privates and your state school.

GOOD LuCk!

Keep doing the research it looks pretty good.

Hey OP I'm in a similar situation as well. I've done research for about 1.5 years and it has definitely boosted my Science gpa. I have the same question as well. Will adcoms see this as some sort of BS to get your gpa up? I do have quite a bit of A's from some of my science classes but the majority of the boost to my science gpa comes from research. Thanks a lot!

If they saw it as BS they just wouldn't count it, which from what I hear is not the case. Doing research is a time commitment and a learning experience just like taking real classes is. Of course, I'm biased because I too am in a similar position. 😉

I am also in a similar position, and always wondered if they would even count in Science gpa since they have titles like surgery and medicine...
😕
