so i have a pretty low gpa but i have this next year ( since im taking a year off) to try and bring it up. I was wondering whether it would be beneficial to just take lots of BS science classes but which sitll have the prefixes of Bio, Chem, and Physics in them? I need suggestions on how I should bring this up...fast. btw the sgpa is 2.8, overally i have a 3.1. Also are math courses like calculus and statistics included in sgpa?

At UC's Biology majors aren't allowed to take lower div bio classes which is why im starting to think you see alot of non-science majors with ridiculously high science gpas. I mean if they got it legitly then great, but they can take alot of the science fluff classes like biochemistry of cooking. Not really a good idea to take those fluff classes, just change your study habits and do it legitly taking your bio upperdivs. This will definitely help you in the long run.

Yes, all Math courses are included in your science GPA. Does that help or hurt you?

ya i know its horrible. My lower division science courses like genchem, ochem, and bio are all what screwed me over. My upper divs like biochem, molecular bio, cell bio, plant bio are all like a 3.7 gpa. My lower divs are like 3.1. They purposely make them a lot more difficult -__-

🙂 the math courses definetely help!!! 2 A's in calc, a B in the last part...adn an A in stats 🙂

I apologize but its been bothering me lately: why are you flaunting your URM status?

And I don't understand what you mean by bio majors not being allowed to take lower div bio courses, because I did ...

Took me a while to know what you are talking about, but now i see that "Mexican URM" is written in his signature.

So people will expect less from him stats-wise? Cant think of any other reason.

To the OP, i think adcoms will see right through you and count it against you, unless they are classes that can be justified as preparing you for the DAT (ecology, evolution, plant/animal diversity, genetics, ...)

I think you should man up and take even harder bio classes that will prepare you for dental school. Refer to different dental schools' lists of recommended classes.

Not sure how putting what I am in my sig is flaunting but sure. I mean doesn't predents ask you put ethnicity as part of the stats? Doesn't aadsas ask you to put it on the app? Would it be flaunting there? People need to relax about the whole URM thing.

For lower divs I meant the really stupid science classes that still count as science gpa like biology of cooking and stuff like that. I know when i tried registering it always said for non-bio majors only. I didn't mean the lower division biology courses from the first 2 years that are meant to weed people out and are crazy hard.
