Ok I'm sure everyone here knows this, but I'm a lil Canadian who gets different answers from different people/schools...
is our science GPA the Total Science gpa OR only the BCP (biology, chem, physics) gpa?
im so confused in what the schools consider "science gpa"
everything is just so different from the school that i attend now, our gpa is out of 9 so this 4 thing is scary 😕
thanks so much!

When I filled out the AADSAS application, there were 3 GPAs. There's the BCP (bio, chem, and physics), other science, and non-science. As far as figuring out what is "other science" and what is "non-science," my school has every class classified as either arts/ hummanities, science/engeneering, or social sciences. Anything that was classified as science and engineering and not BCP was put under other science... things like math. Anything classified as art/hum or social sci went under non-science... things like psych, english, art history/studio.

Also on AADSAS, there is a GPA conversion table, but you just need to indicate your grade and how many credits/units/hours it was. And the AADSAS grade is likely to be the same as your grade on your transcripts.

ohh yes i know that...but what do the dental schools focus on? obviously total gpa but is it the BCP or Science?
For example, everyone who listed their gpas in their profiles, it is there Total GPA and there Science OR BCP?
im just confused

if your BCP GPA is strong, you are money. Usually, if your BCP is high, your science is pretty up there, unless you are a math ****** like me. In any case, if you messed up on a few of the BCP classes, then obviously science gpa matters most. I think its BCP > SCI > total, in terms of importance. Strictly my opinions.

P.S. Nate28 was clearly answering your question because according to your first post, you clearly didn't know what the difference between science and BCP gpa was. Next time it would be nice to say thanx for some1 who wenth through researching that for you than claiming you knew it. Just my 2 cents.

Hey sgdorfl90 - thanks for the support!!

And cute_in_pink - I think they people here put their science GPA, but I'm not sure. I've always broken my GPA down to science and non-science... I've never thought about breaking down the science to BCP and other, so I thought it was odd when AADSAS did it that way. Also I think dental schools look at each GPA individually as well as cumulative. It gives a clue as to what's holding your GPA up, and what's dragging you down. But I think sgdorfl90 is right in that BPC is the most important b/c those are your pre-reqs.

When most people post sci gpa on SDN they mean their broader science GPA, not the BCP.

Schools use the different gpas differently. Some schools ignore the science and use the BCP. Some do the opposite. It just depends. OHSU told me they didn't use the science and used just BCP.

ohh geeze i think i wrote that post very fast, im so sorry! Thank you nate28, for your help and sgdorfl90 for pointing that out...i really appriciate all the help! 😳

You're welcome. 🙂
