hey everyone,

do you think most schools would accept a LOR from a professor you did research with in the summer as a "science LOR"? or does it have to be from science faculty who have taught you?

having some problems obtaining a second letter from a science professor, and was wondering if I can you use my research professor as a substitute.

did anyone else encounter the same/similar problem when asking for LOR's?

thanks 🙂

have a great weekend

to those writing MCAT tomorrow - kick some a$$!

Hey there. It should be from a professor who taught you in a class. However, you should still get the one from your research professor! It's good to have a letter from an EC that was significant to you. Good luck!

Unless the school specifically wants a letter from a professor that taught you, I think a letter from summer research is even better.

most schools ask for science LORs from profs that have taught you. the research LOR can count as one of your EC LORs which are also important.

5 is a nice number to have.

3 science from profs.
1 humanity from a prof.
and 1 from an EC.

thanks for the responses!

most of the schools i'm thinking about want 2 science LOR's and a few require 1 non-science

i have 1 science and 1 non-science so far, but have been turned down by 3 of my science professors when i asked for a letter, so i'm getting very discouraged, don't know what to do

has anyone else experienced these LOR problems?

thanks again

wow professors who refuse are pretty jacked...

did they give you a reason on why they refused you?
i mean i would assume you did well in the class to ask...and that it wouldnt really be too hard to write if you provide them with your personal statement and maybe notes from you TA about your performance and attitude in the class for your professor to draw upon...
