Hey everyone!

I just wanted to throw out that I'm a first-year at SCO, so if anyone has questions about the process or Memphis in general, please don't hesitate to contact me. I remember this time last year I was going NUTS, and didn't have anyone to ask questions. So... my offer stands.

Best of luck to the future Class of 2016 =)

Hey! I'm heading to SCO for an interview next week and was wondering if you had any interview advice! I know it's going to be closed file, would you recommend knowing anything regarding legislation/current news in optometry? What type of questions should I prepare for? Anything helps! Thanks in advance!

This is my first time replying to a message, so I hope I do this right haha. I went to SCO last week and they did ask me what is one political issue impacting the profession right now. She said it was okay if I didn't know an answer, but it might help if you have an answer for it. Most of it was just tell me about yourself, why optometry, why not ophthalmology, and why SCO, what was your most difficult class and how did you succeed in it, etc. It was very laid back; good luck! Hope this helps!

Political issue in general for everyone is fighting for a larger scope of practice within each state. Tennessee is the second most advanced in scope of practice of any state, following behind Oklahoma. Our profession is completely legislatively governed. Who was your interviewer if you remember?

Third state, Kentucky beat ya guys recently 🙂

I just interviewed with SCO yesterday and the overall experience was pretty relaxed. I did get a question about my perspective on any issues in optometry that would raise concerns. I used the laser surgeries possibly ruffling the feathers of opthamologists and it seemed to go over fine. The rest was just stuff about my favorite class, strengths, why optometry, etc. Pretty smooth day overall though.

What did you mean by "laser surgeries possibly ruffling the feathers of ophthalmologists"?
I'm going for an interview at SCO on Mar 9th and I'm having trouble finding Different states' optometry laws specifically Georgia and Tennessee. Anyone know where to start?

I guess the only major difference is the injectables.

Dr. Aaron Kerr

I really liked her!! She did my interview when I was there too. Even though I didn't end up deciding to go to SCO, she was my favorite interview of all the ones I had.

I have an interview with SCO this Friday and I was wondering how long is the actual one on one interview? Also I was wondering if everyone's interview is closed file or open file?

My interview was about 45 min long. They have your optomcas essay and your major I think, but not your gpa/oat. You have a separate chat with the student affairs guy about your academic stuff and any outstanding pre-reqs. Check out the interview feedback page for SCO to see some good info about what they ask, etc. Good luck!

Ok thanks, I didnt even think to look at the feedback page.
