So I am a fourth year at an american medical school (respected, but not top tier). I ranked in the top 20% of my class and got a 247 on the step 1. I am trying to match in IM in a good Cali program. I have 17 Cali interviews set up so far. My question is, I just got my step 2 ck score, and it is a 246. I know 1 point doesn't really matter, but I was surprised since people seem to do so much better on step 2. Anyways, is there any reason NOT to release my step 2 to programs now. Would it be a good idea to hold off a while, or just hand it over? Thanks.

I agree that you should release the score. It shows consistent top notch performance. Good luck.

Thank you both very much. I am certainly pleased with the score. I just wasn't sure, since the average for step 2 is now 229 (SD of 23) if programs would think less of me for not having gone up like most people do from step 1 to step 2.

Frankly, in someone with a very good Step 1 score, if I don't see a Step 2 score and know they've taken it, I presume they are hiding something. It looks fishy to me and you have no reason to not release your score, IMHO.

You are way too fixated on the thought that your step 2 score must be higher than your step 1. Your score is great, and you shouldn't worry about it. It will only be seen as a strength. I see that the OCD habits needed to get into medical school tend to persist....
