Finally completed the DAT yesterday. It really is an amazing feeling to get the burden of your back. As far as my results go, i wish i had done better on some sections such as qr and pat. Take a look.
pat: 16 🙁
qr: 15 👎
RC: 19
bio: 18
Gc: 18
Oc: 20
Ts: 19
AA: 18
I have used this site a lot for support and questions, and feel I need to give back to the forum. Here is my concise review of the exam.
bio: This section is harder than most practice exams (such as kaplan). I really cannot tell you the importance of having a broad knowledge of EVERYTHING. You never know what question you might receive. Also, you must be methodical when answering each question. Remember, this is a multiple choice exam and 1 out the 4 answers that is correct is starring you in the face. By process of elimination, one should narrow it down to 1 or 2 choices. I used kaplan blu book, and pocket cliffs Bio for my study tools.
GC: This section is easy. I thought i got a 27 on it. I must have made dumb mistakes as usual. If you can study a good GC book like pocket cliffs chem, should should be fine. I had like 4 calculations.
OC: Also easy. I studied kaplan blue book and pocket schuams o chem. Know your reactions!
RC: Somewhat difficult. My method was go straight to the questions and look for the answers. Draw back to this plan is your eyes will be blood shot when finished with this section, and if you wear contacts like i do, they will hurt you. As far as tone questions, I had about 13 total.
QR: THis is funny. I have taken up to calculus 2 in college, and have averaged an A in both classes. I have no idea what happened here. I think i might have ran out of gas. I also didn't study for this section. If i take it again, i would suggest purplemath.com.
PAT: All i can say is that kaplan is crap for this section. It under prepares you for this section. On kaplan practice tests i was scoring 19-21. Next time i will use crakdat pat. or something similar.
In conclusion, this whole experience was daunting. However, it taught me to be mentally tough and control my emotions. I am 18 years old and a junior in college (I had a bunch of AP credits) , so i think i have time to retake it again if I have too. Who knows, maybe these scores will suffice for some schools.
GL everyone.
