Hi all,

I am planning on applying for the 2018 cycle of med schools. I am graduating this May, and during my gap year would like to work as a scribe. Any clue how early I should apply to be a scribe if Im wanting to work with DocAssist or PhysAssist? I'd like to start right after graduation, 2.5 months from now. Thanks in advance!

Now. Most application processes take 1-2 months. They most likely will be fine to wait until May 15th for you to start. Many scribes leave in June/July for med school so mid-May will allow you to be trained in time.

I was former scribe. I applied in July and started working August. However, I don't think I was the norm since I was referred by 3 people who already worked there, one of them being the co-chief. I'd say start now though since most people leave around May for professional school and a lot of spots will open up.

Some companies claim that you should apply about 2 weeks before you'd start, but it often takes people a month just to hear back for an interview, and then a few weeks to hear if they got the job, then several more weeks of paperwork and scheduling training. It depends on scribe demand in your area. I applied to ScribeAmerica a week ago and got an interview offer a couple days later, but for others it takes months. It probably couldn't hurt to apply now and just reapply if they turn you down.
