Hi, one of the reasons I'm interested in RadOnc is my father is getting his Mycosis Fungoides treated at Scripps this year. His doc said that they do offer 3rd/4th yr rotations.

Since they don't have a residency program, is it worth trying to get a slot there? RadOnc seems like such a small community that I would think a prestiguous place like Scripps would offer a great experience and a weighty LOR or two.

Are their any other opportunities like this that would help an application? For example, a classmate is doing an NIH research rotation for to boost his surgical oncology application. If these types of rotations are helpful and worth the effort, I'd like to start investigating them now, at the start of my MSII year.

Thanks for the help!

Be smart about this; go where the residency program is. You get the names as well as an "audition rotation". Unless you think you wont perform well in which case you dont want to audition.

I did a sub-internship in Internal Medicine at Scripps Green during my fourth year of D.O. school. Outstanding experience and really a nice hospital to be an IM resident. I was impressed at how sharp the medicine residents were. I was with a different attending each week so it wasn't really a rotation to get a LOR at in my opinion. Just did it for the sub-I experience and it was worth it. I did meet one of the Radiation Oncologists though and he seemed pretty friendly....don't think that you'd be able to get to know him well enough for a LOR though.

Good Luck.
