Scrub Color for Students at International Schools

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What color scrubs are required for students at the UK schools?

Assuming it's a serious question, did you consider calling the particular school and asking?

(For those mocking the question, I don't think it's so unreasonable - we have specific requirements here depending on whether you're in small animal or not. And some of the other health-care schools at our university have their own requirements.)

Tie Dye.

No really, it depends on the school---ours have logos too. Plus the scrubs here are different than US ones, so you might as well wait to buy if that's why you're asking.

I'm going with - every school probably has their own colour...

Also, as the UK schooling mirrors australias more closely - you might find yourself not wearing scrubs that often. Over here, scrubs are ONLY worn if you are going into a surgical suite. The rest of the time in the hospital, you wear a clinic coat with professional clothes underneath.

Don't know how the US does it. Also, we dont wear scrubs or whatnot to anatomy labs etc. You wear a lab coat for that.

And you find those out when you need to find them out...

SGU only requires solid color scrubs-they ask that we have no logos or patterns on the scrubs (SVM doesn't seem to abide by this rule like the SOM though)

Wow, I am surprised by how unbelievably rude some future 'professionals' can be. I'm asking because most US schools require light blue. As such I have purchased them previously. I was recently considering getting some new scrubs, but since I might be going to Glasgow/Edinburgh/RVC I was curious as to the color that they required. It seems that RVC also uses the ciel blue color. And yes, I am aware that most UK schools have students in professional clothes most of the time versus scrubs.

To those of you that mocked the question you may want to take a look at yourselves because your maturity levels clearly are not consistent with that of people entering into doctoral degree programs.

To be fair, you probably should have started the thread with that question/explanation first. Unfortunately, as an open forum, we get quite a few trolls/non-vets, so with no background story it seems like a random question.

All the scrubs I have seen here, students and techs alike are collared, green or blue, and have the school logo on them. Typically, only 5th years wear them, but I mostly see khakis, nice shirt, lab coat or 5th yr jackets floating about.

And Dsmoody and nyanko are just teasing. A sense of humour is also a big part of this field.

Or the ones that ask questions that could be answered with a simple search or can't be answered at all...we've had an influx of those lately.

Not saying that this thread is one of those. But just saying in general.

Some people like finding out things ahead of time .. either because they're excited, or because they're curious. If you think the question is stupid, so what? Leave it be? This forum is at its best when people are helpful.

Fine.

And these on the weekend:

Last year, we did not wear scrubs at all for first year at Edinburgh. We wore lab coats over street clothes for anatomy and histology labs. Out at the farm for practicals, we wore navy blue boiler suits (long sleeve or short, one piece, zip up with a collar) over warm clothes and wellies. Oh, and blue or green waterproofs over it all (it rains a lot, ya know?) 🙄

If you are going abroad, I would definitely suggest waiting to get your stuff since you will probably need the room in your luggage for other stuff.

Welp better pack it up and go home.

Strange, I think it's best when people are funny, engaging and informative. And maybe immature.

Buying scrubs for a specific school before you even get accepted seems...ill-advised, IMO.

is that true?

I wear winnie the pooh. And flowers. And polka dots. And even halloween scooby. I think I only own one pair of solid scrubs and they're burgundy. Most parts of the hospital dont require scrubs though- business/white coat for SA, khakis/polo for LA. Scrubs for sx and that's about it I think.

Wow this is the lamest controversial thread I have read yet.
Really, asking about scrub colors is so problematic?

How sad.

I'm actually happy to read something new for a change. I mean really, how many retread threads can we read about getting an MS, or which major is best, or what color panties to wear to an interview?

For what it is worth, I think the OPs question is reasonable. It doesn't really matter here at Penn, but if I had to buy scrubs as a pre-vet, I would want to buy the color(s) I may need later on. Why waste $$$ on them when you could do something better with the money like buy a horse (that one's for you Heylodeb!).

One time, I took one of my dogs to my vet and the vet came in and he was wearing hot pink scrubs. That was... interesting. Until then I didn't know they came in pink, lol.

Pink is awesome. Right now I'm wearing pink PJ's with polka dots.
