Stupid question- can you wear a long-sleeve shirt under your scrubs and still scrub in on surgery?

No. Technically you're not even supposed to have a t-shirt on underneath but alot of people get away with it.

A proper surgical scrub means scrubbing up to the elbows. This might be a bit difficult with a long-sleeved shirt. Many places will not allow you to "scrub" if the sleeves of your short-sleeved T-shirt are longer than the sleeves of your scrub top.

Even if you are perpetually freezing, like me, once you get under the hot lights with a long-sleeved sterile top gown, you will start to heat up fast. I stay toasty warm with a spagetti strapped T-shirt under my scrub top.
 
If you still get cold, check your pulse. You are most likely dead.

If, for some reason, you still feel the need to warm up under those hot lights just casually mention to your attending that his/her pimp skills seem a little rusty.

I wore a cami and a tank on top of it. The other thing you can do is wear long johns on your legs underneath. I was always cold, and this helped a lot. I wore long high knee socks under the long johns. The best long johns I have yet to find are from LLBean & Lands End, the silk ones. They breathe & take up less space under pants (other than scrubs) than cotton.

Another alternative if you have your scrub tops properly tucked into your scrub pants is to ear large quantities of Taco Bell food before the operation and let nature take it's course. 😀
