Given that you use a nickname and don't give any personal information, is your anonymity protected on SDN?
In MCAT forum, the admin said that upon request of AAMC staff, they'd disclose your identity if you violated MCAT test rules, that I understand.
So what if you don't violate any rule, does SDN release your information upon school staff's request? 😕

A) The only 'identity' associated with your account is your email address (which may very well reveal your identity).

B) Your SDN account is as anonymous as you make it. Some people choose to disclose a fair amount of personal information while others keep it to themselves. It is completely up to you.

C) Unless you've broken a law I can't see SDN reporting your email address to anyone, especially a school.

Just try to avoid saying things that you wouldn't say if people knew who you are and if you're worried about your post history, just edit out your posts. Or you can become a gold donor and delete them ^^

In addition to what aSag said, if you are using your home internet (vs your school's or library's) and not using a proxy service, that would probably be the most identifiable information SDN could give out. Of course the AAMC would then have to pursue legal action to force your ISP to disclose your name and address to them/local police.

1. Use an anonymous offshore V.P.N.
2. Use an email address not linked to any other account.
3. Don't use similar usernames.
4. ???
5. Profit.

Moderators sign a non-disclosure agreement. We cannot disclose your information willy-nilly. Nor can your information be accessed by regular users. To be honest, not all volunteer staff is privy to that information, either. Member privacy is something we take to heart. Rest assured, your information is safe.

You must make a dead-drop with your computer near the creek by the playground. Then you will find a man with a pin-stripped hat and black rimmed glasses. Ask him for what the time is in Alaska.

At least that's how I keep my anonymity

We're surfing a pre-professional site, not looking for cheese pizza.

I'm so nontrad, I'm fairly sure that if the adcom for my target school wanted to find me on the forum, they could identify me using my app and sufficiently clever searches. It would be very hard to make that not the case given my particular list of distinguishing features, unless in my posts here I were to lie and replace them with other similar ones; and I don't really like to do things like that. So I've thought about this a lot: if people are reading me they may well recognize me.

But, while I tend to be a bit more snarky here than I'd be in an interview...I expect that most medical schools where I would want to go would be places that are generally comfortable with the kinds of opinions I hold.

If an adcom were to go to the trouble of blacklisting me based on any of the things I have said here, I would assume I wouldn't want to go there anyway.

I'm strongly interested in improving health care and improving quality of life for practitioners and patients alike, and uninterested in going to a school that encourages/accepts bigotry or hazing... Maybe that will put some schools off, but I wouldn't want to get into a school like that. Why waste the money and energy on butting heads with administrators when a better fit would mean a better medical education?
