Just a request for everyone to fill out their SDN profiles, especially education (schools, majors, etc.), age, and anything else pertinent to our obsession for acceptance to med school. I think it helps everyone to know a little bit about each other.
Thanks!

I agree. I think i'll go do mine right now.

Yes and please include your social security number, birthday, mother's maiden name, bank account number, and a picture of your most recent bank statement. 🙂

Lol

I already have all that information for you Epi

;-)

Just because I'm curious, why do people not put up their schools? I mean mdapps has it coded in to allow for this... just curious why.

Are you trying to remain anonymous at your individual institutions? Or are you concerned adcoms are perusing mdapps and if they knew your school info they could pinpoint who you were? (though this doesnt make much sense either, since everything on mdapps is on your app, too, so whats to hide?)

~Anonymity, sugar.

Some of us don't like flashing our knickers at the intarwebz.

he is talking about people's logic behind trying to be anonymous.

Best way to remain anonymous is to not put an MDAPP up all together.

Do you mean that you have my information or do you mean you have all your information ready for me? 😉

I have YOUR information. After all, you are a ucsd med-student, and knowing EVERYTHING about you can be very benificial to me. Of what use can my info be? hmhm?

😀

Application -> MDApp -> SDN -> Oh lord, reject this guy.

OP was talking about the SDN page.

The OP may have also been talking about the regular SDN User Profile page that we each have.
Yup.

If you're posting things that would lead to an automatic rejection, I'd say you have bigger problems than an adcom finding out.

I personally am not too paranoid. Anyone could figure out who I was from my MDapps, much less my posts. How many 18 year old honors scholars who got a 39S on the MCAT do you think there are from Fresno State?

HAHA! THIS GUY!

do you recite those stats to yourself before sleeping every night?

Not really. Those are just the most distinguishing characteristics that came to mind if someone wanted to identify me...

I don't think I'm anything special, and apparently neither do the adcoms. No interview invites yet...

wait... you think that your stats are the most distinguishing characteristics that comes to mind if someone wanted to identify you?

that's a little...

yeah....

you got to get that mindset straightened cuz that's depressing IMHO

Most distinguishing characteristics that are *on SDN* yes. My age and the fact that I'm an honors scholar alone would allow anyone who knows me IRL to identify me...

Hmm. I always found this to be a rather conceited perspective. You actually think you (by you I mean everyone who does this) are that special that an adcom is going to spend their time searching MDApps for something that resembles your outstanding application, then search SDN for the link to that MDApps, then examine all your posts looking for a comments you might have made that tickle them the wrong way?

I think they have better things to do, but I can see how pretending to be that important can be fun.

It's actually more likely to go the other way- we have known adcom members on this site, certainly ones we don't know about. If you're acting like a douche, people are going to remember that. Also, we've seen it happen on other sites.

Not everyone went to a huge school where just saying the name won't give much away.

My college was ~1,100 students, so just saying my gender, age and major makes me one of about 6 people.

Moral of the story, don't ever act like a douche and you'll be fine 🙂

Yeah, wow, I had no idea the size of these egos, and the level of paranoia. I was only suggesting that members of this forum put what school they go/went to so that when we discuss our trials, tribulations, successes, and failures, there is some correlation to where you are on your path, and where you're coming from. Jeez. And, if you are saying things you don't want an adcom to know about here, then you should reconsider your online behavior...

To paraphrase a line from Clue, "maybe we don't want to get to know you."

People have gotten fired and sued over MySpace and Facebook postings. What makes SDN any different?

I agree.

People who choose to remain anonymous when given the choice sort of sketch me out. So long as you have nothing to hide or be ashamed of, what particular bad is likely to come of letting people know what separates you from the next person - what makes you uniquely you?

I guess I'm just naive.

Yea I'd imagine it more likely to go from SDN to app, and I've heard random horror stories...but, I feel like most people on here don't say things that would jeopardize their app. I mean, there is the occassional Chubbs, but I dont think I've seen you say anything app-threatening yet .

It just interests me to see how people respond to horror stories of adcoms rejecting some kid because of his facebook profile/etc, and then censoring their whole lives. Not for me, but to each their own. It'll probably come back to bite me in the ass eventually, but I prefer not to live a life of censorship and fear.

I just want to stay anonymous in my school. I'd rather not have my premed friends knowing who I am on this site. But, if you're a fellow applicant I don't already know, I'm fine giving out that type of info.

But, that's just me. And, I agree with Tupac, I don't think that many adcoms are sitting around on this site. I have heard that there are some med students who have an influence on the adcoms have pointed specific people out at interviews though. As long as you're not a douche, it shouldn't really matter either way 😛

I like this guy EpiPEN. In fact, I may just enter a nursing program at SDSU just to be closer to you. 😛

That's pretty much the lesson in life in general

Oh, sweetpea, you should have been around this spring.

You don't have to have something to hide or be ashamed of to not want any random person to see who you are you know.

I do it becuase if women know what a sexy stud I truly am in real life then I'd never get any peace.

I like to be able to vent a little on here and get out some of that pre-med angst. The medical world is surprisingly small, so I'm not trying to watch out every given second I'm on SDN.

It's not that I want to be a douche or anything, I just don't want to feel like I have to talk in that acceptable "medical school applicant" style. That's what the personal statement and secondaries are for.

I really doubt that your posts would ever get you in trouble with an adcom! It's probably posts like: "I applied to this school as a backup, but I would never go there if I got accepted to another school" that could look bad.

Wow, you're so awesome that you just made me like you more even as you disagreed with me.

You don't have to have something to hide or be ashamed of to not want any random person to see who you are you know.

lol, what you talkin about? Dorothy is a symbol of professionalism. Besides, I took that down. Call me a hypocrite.

Most people who post have nothing to worry about if someone with clout figures out who they are.

There are always a few on any site, who stand out in a negative way.

For most of us, our biggest embarrassment would probably come from stumbling over our old posts four or five years down the line, and realizing how immature and naive we were when we wrote them.

whoaa! hope those pics don't really exist.

lol, what you talkin about? Dorothy is a symbol of professionalism. Besides, I took that down. Call me a hypocrite.

I might still have them in my temporary internet files folder since I don't flush that folder often enough.

It will become good blackmail material one day.

Not before I had a chance to save them to my hard drive. mmm there's no place like home.
