SDNFeedback

Student Doctor Network is looking for what our users would like to see in improvements on our site. With the monies from donations this year, SDN has been able to upgrade the servers and is currently in process of updating the database server. We are working to improve SDN and respond to what resources the majority of our users wish to utilize (and of course make SDN more stable so there is no more crashing!)

In response to user requests, this year SDN has already implemented these changes:

• revamped its forums with the addition and reorganization of various forums and sub-forums,
• added the SDN bookstore, SDN store, and upgraded donor privileges to raise money for SDN,
• updated interview feedback forum,
• as well as added more partners in order to serve our users and provide them with the latest and greatest information on various fields (Such as McGill Journal of Medicine, painrounds.com, eyeorbit.org, d aMD-MBA.org)
• and much, much more!

So we are now requesting what YOU, as the user, to provide us with feedback and suggestions on what you would like to have in terms upgrades of features and format changes. Our goal is to have people from all walks of life contribute to SDN and help us to create an invaluable resource for pre-professional health programs through graduate school, practice specialties and beyond.

maybe add more text features...like different faces...symbols..stuff used in other forums...dont know if the added features would compromise the speed of the servers or hinder loading time...

Split the forums, like there is one for mcat disc, there should be one for other premed stuff for ppl NOT applying yet.

Also maybe an interview thread, further and interview update thread for those that had interviews but want to communicate with others who did at same schools to see whats going on.

I think the adcom forum idea is good. This way you can have some REAL, FACTUAL, advice. However, you should make their sn's show that they are adcom and/or verify that they really are.

We want to be able to search

PLEASE split the forums. Does an1 see how many pre med threads there are that have NO relevance to those already in the app or/especially interview cycle.

We are presently using our backup server which isn't powerful enough to meet the needs of everyone searching. A new server is being installed within the next few weeks. Until then, the search function has been enabled only for the mods and donors. When the new server comes online, it should be plenty fast.

Bring back 'everybody' and possibly 'lounge' forums back. But definately 'everybody' for general, serious discussion.

Everybody and lounge forums are still available. www.drslounge.com

I think it would be a good idea to have flashing stickies in huge font containing the 2 or 3 most frequently encoutered thread starters and their answers. One way to get new people to the site to actually READ the FAQ is to not label them FAQ. So my personal suggestions would be stickies with topics suchs as:

(Now imagine these in huge red font....)

What classes do I need to apply to medical school and can I take them at a community college??!!

What is the timeline for applying to medical school?

What classes count as science GPA on AMCAS and AACOMAS, I am so confused and can't read the the AAMC/AACOM website????!!!

What are my chances, none of the other threads apply to me in any way...I am totally unique!!??

Another idea would be to make links to pages with this information available on the home page of SDN in large bold font. This might eliminate the many people who create a profile and ask, "Should I go to a private school or public school?" and never reply again.

One more idea might be to not allow a thread title with the word "chances" in it at all. For example, I title my thread, "What are my chances??!?". (I want to be in with the in crowd of course, so don't come up with anything clever.) I try to post and instead I get sent directly to the "What are my chances page?"

Since What are my chances? seems the most frequently inane topic brought up in nearly all the forums it might be good to justs have a separate forum for that one topic.
