SDNFeedback

Student Doctor Network is looking for what our users would like to see in improvements on our site. With the monies from donations this year, SDN has been able to upgrade the servers and is currently in process of updating the database server. We are working to improve SDN and respond to what resources the majority of our users wish to utilize (and of course make SDN more stable so there is no more crashing!)

In response to user requests, this year SDN has already implemented these changes:

• revamped its forums with the addition and reorganization of various forums and sub-forums,
• added the SDN bookstore, SDN store, and upgraded donor privileges to raise money for SDN,
• updated interview feedback forum,
• as well as added more partners in order to serve our users and provide them with the latest and greatest information on various fields (Such as McGill Journal of Medicine, painrounds.com, eyeorbit.org, d aMD-MBA.org)
• and much, much more!

So we are now requesting what YOU, as the user, to provide us with feedback and suggestions on what you would like to have in terms upgrades of features and format changes. Our goal is to have people from all walks of life contribute to SDN and help us to create an invaluable resource for pre-professional health programs through graduate school, practice specialties and beyond.

*************Search function will be reinstated when the new database server is up and running. Should be by the end of the month.**********

Re-format the Interview Feedback pages so that you can go to the next review directly from the last one, without having to back-button to get to the main list again.

i wanna lolly pop.

The private message box should be bigger.. when you're trying to TYPE the message and look at the previous reply...

I want a search button that works!

C'mon, try to keep the comments on topic.

ok. It would be nice if you could hit the browsers BACk button after making a post and return directly to the forum instead of going back to your post and then back to the forum.

Also, as mentioned above it would be nice to have a NEXT button for browsing the interview feedback without having to return to the main page every time.

one: i miss the "delete post" button!

two: voting in a poll should bump it. too often good/active polls sink because people vote without comment...

three: the SDN Donor and SDN Angel avatars are really tacky looking! seriously, they look like you swiped them from the cartoon network... design something more professional looking and you'll win $20 from me, i promise 😍

I agree with this one... I don't know if it is technically possible, but it would be nice..

Maybe you could have the threads organized by topic automatically to find information more easily (instead of doing a search). Maybe you could use keywords for that...

Examples of topic categories could be:
- schools
- application process
- cost

This begs the question: Who would be the SDN "Librarian" or "Index Maker"??

It could be a lot of work...

Also, A most commonly used search list for each forum could be cool....

A bump button for threads.
That way instead of having to spam to bump it..click the bump button? 🙂

Not about the site but about how donation is taken. I don't want to do paypal. When will money order be accepted?

Mods: Be more active and responsive to trash talk/trolling.

This is a vague suggestion, but I like to see more connections with Dental Town. That would be a strong boost to SDN if many actual practiticing dentist make their posts over here, or we go over there.

I don't want to get my hopes up as much as I did last cycle, but I can't resist the urge to ask if anybody has information regarding my odds of admissions, which correlate to my current situational criteria. Last year was my first year applying to dental school and I received an interview from OSU even though I wasn't scheduled to receive a B.S. degree. I made it to #8 on their waiting list last cycle.

I believe I dramatically improved my application through work experiences (teaching DA, teaching CE credits to dentists, and working as a SurgiGuide product specialist as a Materialise rep); however my DAT scores remain the same (above average; not over 19's). OSU is giving me another interview in Jan 2006 for this cycle. Does anybody have any info to share regarding my odds of being admitted since this will be my second consecutive interview (assuming I ace the interview)?

This year I have other schools interested, however I grew up in Ohio and becoming a buckeye would be a dream come true.

The topic of this thread is SDN User Feedback Request! "What do you want? " I guess, Jim wants admissions to dental school, which SDN won't be able to directly fulfill your wish.

My 2cents, or maybe 3, would be to improve your DAT scores. But, let's see what anybody else says.

Are you guys sure that Posting interview feed back works?

How about an NDBE sub-forum in the Dental Category?

This may be a long way off for some of us - but why not? The Dental forums has one for the DAT... Anyway, just a thought.

it would be great to be able to search the members list by typing in the name as opposed to scrolling through the list

How about a section where people can enter if they've been accepted to a ceritan school along with a section for their DAT scores and GPAs. That way we can track the averages of acceptances that have come through?

yea i like this idea, instead of people keep asking about stats people can just go to one place to check

I'd like to see a non-java chat option. I like to be able to click on someone's name and initiate a pvt chat OR leave them a short msg if they are not there. This increases the traffic on the site while reducing a lot of useles (personal) posts.

Since this pertains to me and the other mods, I'll address it: I and everyone else helping to run this site are volunteers and done on our own time, and many of us are still in school (and dealing with the stress and time issues that go along with it). I do my best to monitor the forums - but many times while I am away problems arise. I encourage everyone to report bad posts by clicking on the "report bad post" button - those messages are sent directly to me and the other mods via my personal email. Also, I prefer to address many problems via PM's - nobody likes to air dirty laundry - and there are protocols that we have to work through (believe me, I wish I had a magic wand that I could just wave over something and fix it asap). These are a couple of reasons why some people may believe no action is being taken or we are dragging our feet.

Thanks for the feedback - and hopefully the site will act on some of them (like the chat feature). 👍

I was going to mention this one, but someone beat me to it.. so I'll second it... Every time you go back to try to read another interview feedback, you have to go through a whole process again....

It would also be nice to be able to view NEW posts in a thread only, or when someone responds to something you wrote...instead of having to read through everything to find out where you left off..

We already have that set up. 👍 This button

next to a thread title will take you to the place where you left off.

One big potential I see in SDN is the networking aspect. I think as future dentists, networking amongst colleagues and peers is one of the most important factors towards becoming a successful professional.

On that note, I'd like to see SDN dedicate a page where dedicated SDNers can post their contact info email, picture, etc etc. organized into each school for people interested to contact us for any information/advice they might feel like asking.

I thought of this because too many times, in the forum, people ask many questions pertaining to a specific school and many times the thread gets lost amongst all other "general topic" threads. also, these threads get bombarded with responses not even related to the topic.

I think this way, people will get their replies faster and the general forum will be less crowded.
