Q: What is an official transcript?
A: An official transcript is a record of the courses you have completed at a college or university. An official transcript must be issued from the Office of the Registrar, and contains an official seal or signature of the Registrar and a watermark. It is sent to ADEA AADSAS directly from the Registrar in a sealed envelope. Transcripts issued to students are considered unofficial and are not accepted by ADEA AADSAS. Also,

For transcripts, you take your matching form to your school's office and they will mail them from there. That way you have the official ones sent, as specified.

Can I send my transcripts to AADSAS if they are in unopened sealed envelopes that were sent to me from my school?

I don't think people are picking up what you're putting down here...

if you already have official sealed transcripts in your possession, you should be able to forward them to aadsas and this should suffice. i did that for one school last year since I had an extra official copy left over from a scholarship application i did.

make sure you print out the matching form though, and put that along with the sealed envelope into a bigger priority mail envelope or the like. that should be fine.

OP: Make sure that they are the official ones. Some schools will give out unofficial ones. And again, like rockclock said, make sure you print off the matching form. Getting these transcripts on your own won't save you any time, because you will still have to wait for the matching form to be available.

Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for.

Another question:

Did anyone have a problem getting their transcripts sent from a school where the matching form had to be mailed to them? I live in Seattle but went to school in New York so I can't take the form to them in person.

ask for a fax number that you can fax it to and make sure to stay on the phone with the person at the registrar's office that you're talking to until they can give you verbal confirmation of having received it. anything short of that and you're just asking for trouble since this is exactly the kind of paperwork that would easily get lost.

P.S. i haven't received a lot of faxes in my time, but i'm sure that the barcode gets destroyed in the process. no worries, the clerk at aadsas who receives your transcript can always just type in the ID number (which is all the barcode encodes anyway)

i've requested many transcripts by snail mail and never had an issue.

So I have 2 transcripts from my primary school and then one for summer classes. I have to print out the matching forms from AADSAS and send them to both registrars? I just want to make sure and do things right. 🙂

Why do you have two from 1 school?

You need a transcript from each institution you attend.

Sorry I meant one from the school I will be graduating at and one from another school where I took summer classes (because of AP credit)

Ah, yeah. I believe you will need both.
