Search Function

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't know if you've noticed, but when newbies use the search function, they resurrect threads from 2001. Don't be so quick to encourage them.

psshh...its more efficient to just ask a question in a new thread because in these forums you will always find people to answer them, even your most mundane & repetitive questions...

...sure you'll get the occasional SDNer (usually with the 2k+ post count) yelling at you for being a 'noob' and preaching about search functions but you'll still get an answer from someone (often from multiple people)...

...so, just leave the high horse in the stable and let the 'noobs' ask their 'noob' questions and ignore their threads if they bug you so much...

and just to clarify MD>>>DO, right?

just wanted to make sure before i take the MCATs!

P.S.: Does my hamster physiology class count in my sGPA?

Can you wear glasses in med school?

Which major should I do?

What GPA/MCAT combo, cGPA/sGPA combo, major/GPA combo is better?

Half of the threads are like this

Also i'm proposing that they read the posts, not respond to them

The ironic part is if the OP had used the search function, they could have just revived another thread with the same title and point!

(fixed above for grammar)

I did use it, and I did see those threads. 🙄

The search function in vBulletin sucks ass.

👍 Second. It's possible to use, but a google search for 'student doctor + topic' is more high-yield.

I love threads resurrected from 8 years ago, especially when someone else posts in the same thread not getting that the thread was from said time and OP probably won't respond to that thread.

OP - Hey guys, I'm going to jail, how do I avoid it?! - 1999
2009 - USER 1 - What happened?
2009 - USER 2 - Yeah, OP, did you avoid it?
2009 - USER 3 - Can you get arrested and still get into Medical School, OP?

OP, 1999
- Hey guys, I have shortness of breath and my left arm feels funny... what should I do?
USER 1, 1999 - Don't solicit medical advice on SDN; see your doctor
USER 2, 2009 - OP, what happened with that arm pain?
USER 2, 2009 - Bump. OP?
USER 3, 2009 - What if I get arm pain while I'm taking the MCAT, should I void my scores?

That's how we found the original C/O 2013 thread...started back in 03!
What on Earth... that's insane.

And since when did Earth start becoming capitalized again. I remember it being lowercase in elementary school.

earth: ground/dirt/terraferma
Earth: our planet

Atleast that is what I learned.

Yes, it's relatively customary to use capital letters to signify a specific reference, usually of reverence. For example,

your mom: the woman who birthed you
Your mom: my girlfriend

I hate this search tool. whenever i type university of texas or a key word more than one word it will bring up old threads that contain the word "of" and has nothing to do with my university of texas!! ughhh is there a way to use the search so that the posts that show up contain "University of Texas" as a whole word instead of a thread that contains a random topic that just happened to contain the word "of"??
