Hello all,

With around a 2.6 gpa I am obviously in need of gpa improvement. I have begun my post-bac and am doing well but even with 4.0 through the 50-60 credits of pre-reqs I could only theoretically raise it to a little over a 3.0.

My proposed plan of action is to now get a second bachelors degree in biology, amassing another 120 or so credits(pre-req credits included) over the next couple of years. With no grades below a B+ and the vast majority hopefully being A's I will have successfully raised my gpa to an acceptable level of around 3.2-3.4. Do people on the board think this is a good plan of initial action?

My reasoning is that my gpa needs major remedying before anything else can proceed. The science courses Ill take will help me to be prepared to get a good score on the MCAT(ill also take at least one prep course and really focus hard on prep). If I can score very well on the MCAT 34+ with my original gpa being brought up to a low 3.0 and other application aspects being all in order should I have a chance at getting into a US MD school? How do schools look at a student getting a second bachelors?

What I've gathered from these forums is that a 2nd bachelors by itself won't really help you (maybe if you got one in something extremely obscure like pre-Christian Norwegian Culture it might help you out in an interview. Or then again it might not...), but those extra credits you'll accumilate while getting the degree will. Plus being a degree seeking student could make you eligible for scholarships/financial aid or earlier registration dates. I think a lot of people doing informal post-baccs register for a 2nd bachelors and just get the credit hours they need, which is what I'm doing.

Good luck, it's a long process.
