Ok well I just took the DAT a second time last Friday and happy for the most part except the stupid PAT.

First DAT (July 28, 2004)
AA: 16
Bio: 15
Chem: 16
Orgo: 17
TS: 16
PAT: 15
QR: 15
RC: 19

Second DAT (November 5, 2004)
AA: 18
Bio: 19 🙂
Chem: 19
Orgo: 18
TS: 19 🙂
PAT: 15 😡
QR: 16
RC: 19

As far as the break down for the test:
Bio: I spent the most time on this section the second time around. I think Kaplan does a very nice job but you should still use other sources. I used Schaum's Outline, Campbell's bio book, and the internet. I also found the Kaplan flashcards to be VERY helpful. My first DAT was heavily focused on ecology while this one seemed more on cellular respiration, enzymes, and about four genetics problems.

Chem: I actually thought I scored a lot higher in this section. It's much easier than Topscore like everyone says. Just know Kaplan very well. I did not have many calculations and about half of the questions were theory type questions such as why is CH4 tetrahedral in shape?

Orgo: Pretty basic and wish the score was higher. Know E1/E2/SN1/SN2 like the back of your hand. I had some naming, orthro/para questions. Nothing too scary, Kaplan covers what you need pretty well.

RC: This section was actually pretty easy. I started to panic however on the first passage and I think that cost me from getting a higher score. I tried to do the 'read the question, the read the passage method' but I could not find the first question fast enough and looked at the clock. Bad idea! I read all the passages quickly and then did the questions. It was pretty much like Topscore however there are questions like "What would be a good title for this passage?" or "What did the author mean by this word?" so be prepared for those. I can't remember my first passage (kind of blocked it out) but the second one was on the process on aging, and the last one was on diseases and bacteria.

QR: I don't understand this section. Both times I took it I was all proud of myself because I thought I was doing great and then bam! Oh well. AcetheDAT is good practice. I had probablity, trig (know the trig chart-saved my butt on about 3 questions.) I didn't have too many word problems.

PAT: Well clearly I am ******ed when it comes to PAT. Although I practiced a TON for it this time, I got killed on the angles. It was just impossible. Not only were the computers bad but they were all within one degree. The cubes were also harder. Some of the figures messed with your head, it looked like a cube was missing in the middle of the structure, but it was hard to tell.

Well I REALLY hope I get some interviews now although I am scared that PAT score will hold me back. I guess it just depends on the school. I hope to God that I am done with the DAT and never have to take it again.

As far as me stats:
Overall GPA: 3.47
Sci GPA: 3.41
BCP: 3.37

I have interviews already at Tufts, Indiana, Nova, and Louisville.
I applied to Detroit Mercy, Michigan, Case, Ohio State, NYU, BU, Creighton, and Marquette.

I also just want to thank everyone was always being so positive. As most of you know, I thought the it was the end of the world after my first DAT. Just PM me if anyone has any questions.

Congrats Rach...I have a question though. Did you receive those interview invites before or after your taking the DAT the second time?

The 4 initerviews I listed I got before I took the second DAT. So maybe other things play a factor besides strong DAT scores. However, right after I bombed the first DAT, I wrote every school telling them I planned to retake so I am not sure if that had something to do with the interview. I have only been to the Indiana interview so far and it went great and my DAT scores never came up.

Great Job! You deserve lots of credit; it isn't easy to force yourself to take that test again, especially during school time w/ school work requiring your time too. Fax & call schools right away-especially your interview schools.

RachMSU,

Congrats on improving your scores!! When did you submit your application to AADSAS?

Yes, it had something to do with it. Your GPAs landed u the interviews but your 1st DAT will put u on the Waitlisted. Now with the new DAT you definetely will get at least one acceptance! (I'm betting on Indiana and Creighton!) Hope u'll get accepted to your state school 😀

Hey,
I submitted my AADSAS app on June 24 so the schools have had my application for awhile.
